Froogie
Challenge

The challenge was to encourage young people and adults to eat healthy portions of fruits and vegetables, per The Canada Food Guide. We needed to create an interactive app that could track fruit and vegetable intake in users.

Outcome

We were asked to help enable young ones and adults to eat healthy portions of fruits and vegetables, per the Canada Food Guide. Dr. Kirk, along with funding from The Heart & Stroke Foundation and CIHR, embarked on the journey that was to become Froogie. Froogie is an interactive app, primarily designed to help users count the number of fruit and vegetable portions they have in a day. With a reward within the app, provided at the end of each day, coupled with character rewards that reveal themselves with each successful week’s passing, Froogie is a fun way to track your daily food intake. Froogie has become an overnight success, with media coverage from coast-to-coast, coupled with over 2 million views of the application on the app stores within the first week. There have been thousands of downloads thus far, and within the first week of launch, Apple has already promoted it as a Recommended App, and a New & Notable App. Scheduled to be released on Tablets, both on the Apple and Android platforms this quarter, Froogie is also getting noticed for future funding, that will gamify the approach, to keep the attention of those it is intended for.
