Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) is a trusted organization in Simcoe County, Ontario, that provides services, care, and information to residents and visitors in the community. The challenge was to do a full redesign and development for Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit’s main website. The public health unit website holds a significant amount of information, and we needed to find a way to help users access the health information they seek. We needed to highlight current resources and services offered by the Health Unit, to increase awareness and participation. Additionally, we were tasked with redesigning the Healthcare Professionals Portal.
The website redesign was threefold; first, we collected information for the redesign; second, we implemented recommendations generated from the research, and informed by our previous healthcare experience; third, we established and enforced strong brand standards across the site. We crafted recommendations that would appeal to current users, increase engagement, both online and in-person, and push important content. The intuitive menu navigation makes the plethora of information user-friendly for the general population’s access. The design, development and AODA compliance ensure that the website is accessible for all who visit SMDHU.
Due to the success of the main website redesign, SMDHU asked us to redesign their Healthcare Professionals Portal. Primary and secondary research, separate from the research for the main site, indicated that the Portal required a new menu structure, language and search navigation. We implemented the necessary changes, and optimized the portal for ease of use.
