Design, Development, Strategy
The Sinai Health System came to us to create an online framework to identify and support caregivers of seniors and Dementia patients, who are at risk. Being a caregiver can be stressful and difficult, and we needed to create a way to deliver support to those who are struggling. I SEE U teaches a communication approach on how to identify and respond to caregivers in everyday life encounters.
Our creation delivers learning resources, training, and certification for caregivers. The module enables the user to learn about the elements that contribute to isolation and stress. I SEE U is an acronym for Include, Screen, Educate, Extra Help, and Understand. Include the caregiver by checking in with them and sharing information with them. Screen to identify potential risk. Educate about support resources. Extra Help entails listening to the caregivers needs and offering the appropriate support. Understanding means recognizing their circumstances and communicating your understanding.
The steps in the module are: 1. Learning about the importance of caregiver well being. 2. Understanding the I SEE U framework. 3. Practicing using I SEE U skills and strategies, through case scenarios and simulation. The curriculum is approximately one hour long and includes both visuals and voice overs, in English and French. The module also includes English and French versions of all the training materials. These include theoretical components, questions, videos, a feature to print a summary, back end features to collect aggregated data of participants’ responses and feedback, and the ability to print a certificate.
The modules were used to provide in-person training, as well as directed and self learning sessions, for individuals that wanted to do so on their own. We at WeUsThem value those who selflessly care for others, and want to help them take care of themselves, as well.
